We Would Have Been Proud
In "We Would Have Been Proud ," I delve into my personal journey with depression and suicidal thoughts, aiming to bring a hidden and stigmatized topic to the forefront. Despite society's encouragement to prioritize mental health, genuine understanding often remains elusive.
My own struggle led to a desire for connection rather than traditional solutions like therapy or medication. This longing for empathy, accentuated by a disheartening encounter with a therapist, pushed me to mask my pain, presenting a façade of well-being to protect my loved ones. This project challenges the notion that outward appearances always reflect inner well-being. It juxtaposes charming, whimsical images of my recent adventures with stark black and white depictions of inner turmoil. With a broad audience in mind, I hope to spark introspection and encourage viewers to check on their loved ones, realizing that appearances can be deceptive.
The title, "We Would Have Been Proud ," hints at an impending loss, urging us to connect with and support those we care about before it's too late. Ultimately, this project seeks to foster dialogue, compassion, and openness about mental health.
